With the Fairfax you're ready to head off-road at a moments notice, but the brogue details are comfortable in the stuffiest of offices if you ever need to drop in.
"I prefer the boots over tennis shoes hands down." - Wilcox Wearer
Say goodbye to aching arches, heels and knees. We have no time for long break-in periods, hefty price tags and boots that fall apart in less than a year.
We only makes boots that
• are built to last
• support your feet & back
• are fairly priced
To see you through years of adventures, we use the very best materials and methods to craft every pair. The support from each pair's CloudCush™ Comfort system means your feet (and body) will be up for a full day's work and all the shit that comes after.
Built to last. These are not your average boots. Every pair is built with our 4 layer CloudCush™ Comfort system on the inside:
Read more about what this means for your feet here.
The top layer is a removable insole so you can easily adapt your pair to fit orthotics, custom insoles, heel lifts or inserts.
The outside of the boots are made of full-grain waxed cow leather (the toughest kind of leather to last through the years). The inside is lined with soft buttery calfskin from heel-to-toe.
The Fairfax has a two-part mini-lug natural rubber outsole that can easily be replaced by your local cobbler thanks to each pair's 360° Goodyear Welt construction.
Have the odd mark and scuff on your boots? Don't worry this tells you the leather on your boots is top quality and adds to their character. However, if you want that fresh-out-of-the-box look follow our boot care instructions here.
The Fairfax Boot fits true-to-size in length & width for most feet.
Size guide: Order the size you most commonly wear in US-sized sneakers.
Between sizes? Choose the larger size.
• For example: If some of your sneakers are 9 and some are 9.5, order a 9.5 in our boots.
Width: E - All our boots are an E width. This means a little more breathing room than standard shoe width (D).
Wide Foot? Most people with EE width find our boots fit them well if they either (a) go up a half size, (b) replace our standard insole with a thinner insole for more room, or (c) do both.
• You can do the same thing (a) or (b) if you prefer a roomier toe box or like to wear thicker socks. Either way gives you a little more wiggle room around your toes.
• Regardless of the insole you go with, our industry-leading PORON® foam footbed is still at the base of it all to provide premium shock absorption and quick rebound.
Full sizes: 8 - 15
Half sizes: 8.5 - 11.5
This was my first pair of Wilcox boots. Didn’t know how to size them…. Took two tries to finally get the right size but customer service was great. Once I got the the right ones they have been awesome. Wear them often. Well made, look sharp and really comfortable. Will be a repeat customer.
I was always looking for a traditional man’s boot a boot a man from the 30’s
Or 40’s would be familiar with.
Your boot fits that bill. The pig skin lining is a added plus for comfort. I will always chose quality over Chinese crap.
I have owned Wilcox boots since 2017. 2 x Shiloh rust brown (one is now a work pair and a newer not as beat up pair) and 1 x Fairfax Black. These are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Not only do they feel good, they also look great. As they break in, they seem to stretch a bit making it easier for thicker socks if you are working or hiking outside. I recently had my black Fairfax resoled and shined up, and they look like new.
I also just bought my son a pair of Century's for Christmas so he has a nice pair for college. - so far so good!
The only item that is annoying is some of the quick lace hooks have broken from wear and tear, which either can be repaired or you can slip the laces through the hole..no biggie.
Do yourself and your feet a favor and buy a pair, you will not be disappointed.
I bought these a few years ago and use them hard. (Harder than I should've to be honest. Hunting, hiking, motorcycle, farm.) They look even better with time. I've had them re-soled once,(hunting trip in hard/wet conditions ripped off the heel.) Still love them whether polished or not.
Only gripe is the back/forth shipping took a while and the insert that came w/ them was virtually useless, just a piece of fabric almost.
(I got my own inserts,) and that was all they needed.
I've considered buying a 2nd pair but don't want to spend the dough yet.
I've had other friends purchase, and I'm glad we all have.
Most of the time they're not polished.
These boots are super comfortable with minimal break in period if you do it right. I personally put on thicker socks and wore them around the house for 30 minutes of walking, and wearing them 2 times and that’s all it took. I have two pairs of Fairfax boots, one in black and one in rust. I also have a pair of rust Shiloh boots and they are all very well made, comfortable look great and will last you for years to come. Without sounding like I work for Wilcox, buy them!! (I don’t work for or have any affiliation with Wilcox.)
I forgot to mention, I have a pair of brown Kerns on the way!
For the last 6 years I've worn these around the streets of urban and suburban Minneapolis, MN mostly in the winter months for work & play. They've been quite comfortable and stylish. (Although the pull loops on the black pair interfere with the way my jeans or slacks hang!). Over the past year I was wearing them less frequently as walking with hard soles on concrete and asphalt had become a bit painful for my knees and heels. Rather than give up on them, I chose to replace the inner soles with some that had more cushion and thickness to them. Bam! What a difference! They are much more comfortable. Then, about two weeks ago, I took a week's vacation to Northeastern Minnesota and wore these boots every day. Hiking or bumming around the campsite on the edge of the wilderness I have never owned boots that perform as wonderfully as these. So very comfortable! Up and down hills and over rocks the tread and the ankle support were tremendous. Mind you this state is in a serious drought right now so I could not test them in mud or rain on this trip but I think the past experience with snow is sufficient. These are terrific boots. They're great around town and absolutely stellar when taken off road. I'm looking forward to using them more off road in the future. I think the tread has a few more years left on them. Thanks Wilcox for some fabulous footwear!
A high quality bolt boot. Very comfortable and looks good too. Started as a Sunday boot but soon became the ones I choose thru the week. 2nd pair I’ve had and am not disappointed in any way. There service department it top notch.
HOW TO STYLE
The Fairfax is fit for off-roading but the brogue detail makes them a bit fancy too.
Wear 'em with worn-in jeans & a leather jacket, or pair them with a shirt and blue jeans for a dinner date.
They'll work with whatever you're working with.
Layer 1: Natural cork base layer that creates an imprint of the wearer's foot. The cork slowly forms to your foot over time, and increases the comfort of the pair every wear.
Layer 2: CELTEC® shaped shank that provides stability to the boot, and helps with arch support.
Layer 3: Anti-microbial PORON® foam footbed which makes the boots feel soft right from the first wear and provides premium shock absorption and quick rebound from sunrise to sunset.
Layer 4: Removable OrthoBoost™ foam insole to provide all-day support and give your feet a soft cradling feel (that would please most podiatrists).
The heritage constructed Fairfax boot features a 360° Goodyear Welt with a two-part natural rubber sole.
The full-grain leather uppers and calfskin lining make it incredibly durable yet comfortable enough to wear all day.
The welt is a strip of leather about an inch wide that connects the upper leather to the midsole. Its outer edge cam be seen around the edge of the boot.
This is the tell-tale sign of the highest tier of shoemaking that allows boots to be easily resoled and fully rebuilt, allowing them to last for years to come
This means the leather used on our boots has not been sanded, buffed, or treated in anyway to remove natural imperfections. Sanding or buffing removes the layer of skin below the hair, but this is the strongest and most durable part of the hide - so you don't want to lose it.
This leather shows characteristics of the hide it came from, and only gets better with age.
This age of leather is perfect for the inside of the boot. It's buttery smooth but still durable and breathable.
Behind the lining the boots are generously padded on the upper, the quarters, and the tongue. At the back of the boots, there's a generous cushioning all around the collar. Together, this makes for a snug pair of boots.
